Co-Founder & Executive Chairman, K2 Pure Solutions

Supporting research in personalized medicine

David Cynamon has often been referred to as a trailblazer and visionary. He started his first successful venture at the age of 17, renting out bicycle Pedi cabs to students during the summer months. By the age of 24 he was CEO of the TSE listed HAV-INFO Computers, which he sold in 1994.

In 1995, David acquired a controlling interest in a household cleaning plant called KIK Corporation, and turned it into North America’s largest manufacturer of retailer and National brand consumer products in the household, personal care and over-the-counter drug categories. Under his leadership, the company expanded from 1 to 23 manufacturing facilities, employing 4,000 people and sales climbed from $16 million to over $1.3 billion in 12 years. KIK was twice recognized as one of Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies and in 2002, David led the company through one of the year’s largest and most successful Income Fund public offerings, forming KCP Income Fund.

David has always loved sports and entrepreneurship and combined the two whenever possible. In 2003, along with Howard Sokolowski, he purchased the Toronto Argonauts, and in 2005, after turning the team around to win the CFL Grey Cup Championship, they received the Magna Sports Executives of the Year Award.

David has also received many other awards including, being recognized as one of Canada’s Top 40 under 40 by The Globe and Mail’s Report on Business magazine. In 2002, he was awarded the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for the Canadian manufacturing sector. The B’nai Brith Foundation honoured him in 2007 with its Annual Award of Merit, and, in 2013, Prime Minister Harper awarded David the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal.

David and his wife Stacey, along with their three children, Jesse, Joshua and Geri, are very involved in Toronto’s philanthropic community. Their many impactful gifts include an endowed Chair in Critical Care Medicine at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children, the renovation of the post-natal unit at Mount Sinai Hospital, and the funding of several innovative educational initiatives. In 2009, David and Stacey, along with the Sokolowski family, announced a major gift for a new, multi-sport State of the Art sports complex named the Cynamon/Sokolowski Sports Complex as part of the Prosserman JCC.

David sits on the Board of the Gerry & Nancy Pencer Brain Trust, the Mount Sinai Hospital Foundation, the Mount Sinai Hospital, the Bishop Strachan School, Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Centre for Holocaust Studies, and B'nai Brith Canada.

Currently, David is Executive Chairman of K2 Pure Solutions, which manufactures water purification and disinfection products using safe, environmentally sustainable technology.

He lives by his favorite quote, which he learned from his late father-in-law, friend and mentor, Gerry Pencer: H=R/E happiness equals reality over expectations.
